Alterian releases version 5.9.5 of Content
Manager Enterprise technology, further enabling companies to build
engaging and accessible websites
London – 18 March 2010 – Alterian (LSE:ALN),
the leading international integrated marketing platform provider,
announced today the immediate availability of the latest release of
its Alterian Content Manager – Enterprise Edition product. Released
as version 5.9.5, it offers a wealth of new features and technical
enhancements based on valuable input from clients, partners and
market research. Alterian Content Manager is the Content Management
System (CMS) behind more than 500 customers worldwide, including
WWE, AstraZeneca, Thomson Reuters, Lending Tree and Avis.
Version 5.9.5 has been released to bring
additional benefits to organizations that wish to build engaging,
highly relevant and accessible websites that comply with
legislation and that wish to empower business users in their
organization to take ownership of their online presence.
Among the most important new features that
have been added to the desktop version, as well as the web based
interface, are:
- An advanced
standards-compliant accessibility checker – allowing web content to
be validated using over 200 checks against the latest W3C’s Web
Accessibility Initiative Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
(WCAG). The WCAG documents explain how to make Web content
accessible to people with disabilities;
- Improved features for
sorting and ordering items both inside the editorial interface as
well as on published websites, allowing business users easier
control over relevance and order of published content items;
- A number of features
typically performed by power users, have been added to the
editorial interface to allow these users to carry out specific
tasks without the need to switch to the administrative
interface;
- The web based editorial
interface has been augmented to include even more features than
before, such as a new graphical workflow representation, more
advanced searching and assigning specific access rights on
websites’ branches.
In addition, enhancements were made to Page
Studio, which is a unique piece of functionality of Alterian
Content Manager that allows users to design web pages based on
pre-built blocks of functionality (“components”), without the need
to have any technical or HTML knowledge. Components include items
such a Google Maps, a Login Form, Polls etc. Additions to Page
Studio include the ability to automatically generate configuration
forms for components that need specific parameters, Undo & Redo
functionality and Smart Cell Placement which anticipates where
users want to drop certain components on the page.
Version 5.9.5 has been launched as part of an
overall CMS strategy that aims at delivering innovation that
leapfrogs the capabilities of today’s web content management tools.
The next major release, called Alterian Content Manager v7, is due
in the autumn of 2010. It will bring together the acclaimed
elements of Alterian Content Manager Corporate & Enterprise
Editions into a single product stream, as well as offer new
additional, highly differentiated functionality.
David Eldridge, chief executive officer,
Alterian says of the release, “In the fast changing world of CMS
many vendors struggle to keep their CMS up to date with market
expectations. The release of Alterian Content Manager v5.9.5 is
testimony to our continuous commitment to deliver what the market
expects from us, enabling organizations to comply with legal
requirements surrounding accessibility issues, and allowing
businesses build a valuable dialogue with their audiences that
contributes to their bottom line.”
